Each year the Connecticut Shade tobacco crop yields a very limited number of light, golden brown tobacco leaves from the first and second primings. Because these leaves are exposed to less sunlight, they are golden in appearance, thinner in texture and store more natural sugars, providing a natural sweetness. This special wrapper has been combined with San Andrean binder and Piloto Cubano and Mexican filler tobacco to produce a unique cigar

The 1997 Vintage Connecticut Shade wrapper is from a crop that many consider the best in decades. The rich brown wrappers went through two winter "sweats" in the curing sheds in Connecticut before Daniel Nunez determined which leaves could be classified as Vintage 1997. The San Andrean binder was selected from the best of the highly rated 1998 crop. The binder leaves are "Medio Tiempo" which means they were left on the plant 50% longer than normal to ripen, allowing the leaves to become heavy in texture, dark in color and fuller flavored in taste. The leaves are taken from the upper primings which offer a fuller taste than those from past Vintage years.

This is a true vintage cigar.Its Connecticut shade wrapper is the result of careful cultivation, and crafting; five years after its harvest and the meticulous curing and aging process that is unique to Macanudo, the year 2000 was declared vintage by Mr.Nunez. These rare wrappers, along with dark, supple San Andres binders and premium, full-length Dominican and San Andrean filler produce a depth and complexity of taste that is both refined and rich.
